Office-Based Anesthesia Update

The Office-based anesthesia delivered by the well-trained OMS-led anesthesia team continues to offer patients a safe, comfortable, and effective surgical outcome. An important component of this paradigm is the peer-conducted Office Anesthesia Evaluation required every five years as a condition of membership in state OMS societies. This session will focus on the elements of the Office Anesthesia Evaluation, including staff training, emergency procedures, and documentation. In addition, participants will learn about recent national and state trends and statistics surrounding the delivery of OMS office-based anesthesia.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

1. Explain the rationale for the five-year Office Anesthesia Evaluation.

2. Develop a staff emergency procedures manual and accompanying training program.

3. Discuss national and state trends involving the delivery of OMS and dental office-based anesthesia.
