The 2025 Annual Meeting of the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Collaboration with Osteo Science Foundation and Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, will be held April 3 – 5, 2025 at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, a luxury resort in Tucson, Arizona amongst the stunning Catalina Mountain range. We are excited to welcome you and your guests to this highly regarded property near the Sonoran Desert. - The Keynote Lectures: “Tissue Engineering Approach to Maxillary Alveolar Ridge Reconstruction” delivered by Peter K. Moy, DMD, and “Tissue Engineering Approach to Mandibular Alveolar Ridge Reconstruction” delivered by Daniel Spagnoli DDS, MS PhD.
- The Byrd-Tilson-Walker Residents’ Day program will again showcase some of our most
talented residents and the research they are conducting at our residency programs. - The renowned and wide-ranging Exhibit Hall will offer attendees ample, uninterrupted
time to learn about the products and services busy OMS practices use every day.
In addition, you will enjoy such fun-filled events as the Thursday afternoon Golf Tournament at the 2021 Golf Digest Editor’s Choice Award Canyon Course, the evening Welcome Reception/Companion Appreciation celebration, and the Friday Evening Cocktail Reception followed by the Alumni Dinners. To conclude another successful meeting, Saturday’s evening President’s Event will be held on-site at the Ventana Heights Terrace with a spectacular view of the 80-foot waterfall. 2024 SWSOMS ANNUAL MEETING PROGRAMS / LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Byrd-Tilson-Walker Residents’ Day Presentations
(4 hrs. CDE/CME)
Outstanding young oral and maxillofacial surgery residents from the Southwestern and Midwestern regions will present scientific and clinical research initiatives ongoing at their respective institutions of study. Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss a broad overview of the extensive clinical scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training programs.
- Inform oral and maxillofacial surgeons in private practice about current advances in treatment modalities, new treatment techniques and procedures, and innovative technological applications that improve patient outcomes.
- Encourage future oral and maxillofacial surgeons to remain involved in clinical research throughout their careers and to support the expertise and evolution of the specialty.
KEYNOTE SYMPOSIUM: (4 hrs. CDE/CME)
Speaker: Peter K. Moy, DMD
Title: “Tissue Engineering approach to Atrophic Maxillary Alveolar Ridge Reconstruction”
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the biologic process of hard and soft tissue repair and regeneration for the deficient maxillary alveolar process;
- Understand the biologic cascade of tissue regeneration and use of growth factors and its effect on clinical outcomes;
- Be able to incorporate the concept of using autologous growth factors and gain confidence in presenting this treatment option to their patients; and
- To incorporate the concept of “Biologic Layering” into your surgical routine.
Speaker: Daniel Spagnoli DDS, MS PhD
Title: “Tissue Engineering approach to Mandibular Alveolar Ridge Reconstruction”
Learning Objectives:
- Imaging and diagnostic planning for mandibular alveolar ridge defect reconstruction;
- Surgical approaches and soft tissue management;
- Space maintenance techniques;
- Principles of tissue engineering; and
- Contemporary tissue engineering graft components.

Hotel Cancellations
The Southwest Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons contracts with The Loews Ventana Canyon Resort for a specific number of rooms. Last-minute cancelations result in fees to the Society. Any cancelations received within 7 days of arrival that negatively affect our group will be billed to you by both the hotel and the SWSOMS. The hotel will automatically charge one night’s room and tax penalty to you. Should the SWSOMS be negatively impacted by room block reduction and attrition penalties, the remaining charges billed to the SWSOMS will be billed to you separately. Payment is required within 30 days of receipt of the invoice.
