2021 SWSOMS Combined Annual Meeting Triumphs in San Antonio, April 17
Nearly 100 oral and maxillofacial surgeons attended the 2021 SWSOMS Combined Annual Meeting, Saturday, April 17, at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio.
Although downsized from its usual three-day format, the one-day program offered a rich mix of continuing education programming, including the popular Byrd-Tilson-Walker Residents Day program, a robust exhibit hall featuring 23 exhibitors, and many opportunities for networking with colleagues from across the Southwest region. Following are some of the highlights:
CE Programs Glimpse the Future of OMS
Keynote Speaker Donald Nikchevich, DDS, who specializes in implantology and advanced implant techniques, offered an exciting view of the technological and digital future of dental implants.
Byrd-Tilson-Walker Residents Day
Adam Wandell, DDS, MD, University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, received the 2021 Robert V. Walker, DDS, Outstanding Resident Presentation Award for “A Minimally Invasive Approach for Temporomandibular Joint Replacement.”

SWSOMS Honors 2020 President William V. Jordan, III, DDS, and 2021 President Wai Pong Ng, DMD
The SWSOMS honored Immediate Past President William V. Jordan, III, DDS, who guided the Society through 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the SWSOMS Combined Annual Meeting, and 2021 President Wai Pong Ng, DMD, whose leadership enabled the Society to reschedule and redesign this year’s meeting as a successful one-day program in San Antonio. Our sincere thanks to two outstanding leaders.
